Snapping A Better View of Cape Town

Beach scenee.jpg

I've often stood shoulder-to-shoulder with a friend, snapping a pic of some unique angle or event. Though we're both using the same Samsung S4 phone camera, our two pictures of the same thing are invariably worlds apart. Mine are okay, but his are spectacular.

I just found out why.

Last week I went on a photo-tour of Cape Town with a pro - admittedly, using professional equipment. Yes, the better equipment improved what I shot, but it was the timing of the light at each location and the hands-on direction from the professional that made the difference; made seeing things from new angles a reality.

Between locations I also got a lesson on framing the pictures as I'd never thought to do.

It was a revelation.

Our memories of the places we visit fade, but our pics live forever; why not make them as good as they can be?

I'm an instant fan - I'm going to promote photo tours as an absolute "must" option for any visitor to Cape Town. Indeed, I'll hopefully win them a few locals who can be tourists in their own city - this city deserves that.
