An app for iOS and Google Play will utilize cardboard viewers and will debut with a VR film about child refugees.
The New York Times is collaborating with Google to launch a virtual reality project that includes a free app to view films on devices like smartphones.
The newspaper publisher said Tuesday the NYT VR app that will be available for download in both iOS and Google Play app stores starting Nov. 5. The first virtual-reality film in the project is titledThe Displaced and follows the experiences of child refugees from south Sudan, eastern Ukraine and Syria.
Google will supply cardboard viewers that allow customers to vie a three-dimensional version of the films.
