Virtual reality bringing classroom learning to life

Did you dread the day you had to dissect a frog in science class? Well your kids may get to skip the gross part, and do it virtually.

It's all thanks to a new program called zSpace, using 3D technology to bring learning to life.

“I would love to keep playing with it to try and think of all the what if’s,” said Kathy Southwell, the Executive Director of Curriculum Learning and Assessment at East-Syracuse Minoa. The program gives you the ability to slice, dice, and dissect everything up close.

Currently eight New York State school districts have zSpace – the closest is in Rochester.

East Syracuse-Minoa’s Superintendent is pushing to have it in their classrooms by Fall of 2016, which would make them the first school in CNY to use it.

Syracuse University also has zSpace for students to use in the schools MakerSpace located in the basement of Kimmell Hall.
