Visualise unveils full-body room-scale virtual reality experience

This was the first time a full-body motion tracking experience has been available to the UK public.

Visualise transformed part of the WIRED Test Lab, a curated environment showcasing the latest innovative tech and solutions, into a full-body room-scale VR experience called The Cell. WIRED delegates took control of a robot avatar and are challenged to perform a series of tasks to escape The Cell using an Oculus Rift DK2 headset, laptop powered backpack and Vicon motion capture system provided by motion capture experts; Audiomotion Studios.

The VR game was built in the Unity game engine, combining motion tracking technology with virtual reality techniques. The participant straps on nine rigid body packs, each containing five markers, in order to capture full body movements, which are then mapped precisely to the avatar in real time.
